I am a very large fan for the use of pouch liners and I think that if you have a Colostomy, you should try them out. I have been using them for many years. I find using pouch liners very desirable when compared to kneeling on a dirty floor in front of a toilet or having to sit backwards on a toilet to empty my pouch. It is also a more convenient way to empty your pouch without getting your hands dirty.
Instead, standing in front of a sink, I am able to take a clean pouch, insert a pouch liner into the pouch, quickly remove the dirty pouch from my wafer or flange and snap the clean pouch in place. Then I remove the dirty liner and flush it down the toilet.
There are several liners available. I use Colo-Magic liners. They are very thin. They come 300 to a package and cost about $60.44 per package. A package lasts me 3 to 4 months. They can be purchased from any major medical supplier. Unfortunately, they are not recognized my Medi-Care. Colo-Magic has a Web-Site, www.colostomymajic.com .
A cheaper version of liners are manufactured by Bear Bags. In using them, I found them to be a little difficult to deal with because the opening is not flared and the material seemed to be slightly heavier. They are manufactured by Flex Wrap Corporation. Their address is:

    Soheia Loeffelman
    Master Pak, Inc.
    370 W. Pleasantview Ave.
    Hackensack, N. J. 07601
    Phone: 201 488-4008

The cost is $5.71 per thousand plus UPS shipping.

The advantages of using pouch liners are:

    1. Minimal use of pouches as they very rarely get dirty.
    2. Very sanitary as you are not fooling with trying to clean the end of a pouch before closing it
    3. Quick bathroom trips.
    4. Using a pouch liner allows you to use a closed pouch, no clamp required.

    The disadvantages are:

    1. Additional cost to purchase the liners. But this is more than off set by the minimal use of pouches.
    2. Flushing of the liners in a toilet connected to a septic system or where a sewer pump is used is discouraged. Instead, empty the liner's contents in the toilet and dispose of the liner in a zip lock bag and put it in the garbage.
    3. Care must be taken in attaching your pouch to the wafer as the liner can cause the pouch to become unattached.
    4. If you are using a one piece system, you will have to change to a 2 piece system.
